The Russellville City Council convened on Monday night to discuss and vote on a number of issues. The council approved all 17 items on the agenda.
The first major item on the agenda was an ordinance to establish the sales tax holiday in the city.

Revitalizing downtown
The Russellville City Council is working with the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments (NACOLG) to get the downtown area declared a historic district. The agency has also approved a resolution to apply for the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area Grant.

“My friends and family could have been attending a funeral. My friends and family could be at a gravesite; mourning and crying could have continued unto this day. But praise be to God for that was not his plan for me, Phil Powell, on March 11, 2017.

The Russellville City Council met at City Hall on Monday night to discuss and approve a number of items on the agenda.
One of the first actions taken by the council was approving a resolution commending Russellville firefighter Shane Mansell on his heroic actions on the weekend of March 11.

City Councilman William Nale remembers when the streets were filled with shoppers, and all the stores downtown were open for business.
There was a time when that kind of activity waned. But looking south down Jackson Avenue, Nale notes with pride that more and more people are again shopping downtown.

In the News: Renovations on flooded ballfield coming together

It’s not unusual for members of the City Council to routinely drive by Hal Kirby Jr. Ballpark to see what has been done to the complex that was destroyed by 2015 flooding.
For more than a year, the only thing they saw was an empty field where ballfields used to be — no fencing, no concession stand.

The Russellville City Council met at city hall on Monday evening to discuss and approve 15 items on the agenda.
One of the first actions was a resolution commending and honoring three Russellville Tennessee Valley Basketball Association teams. The first grade and second grade teams both finished second at the TVBA championship tournament while the fifth grade team defeated Muscle Shoals in triple overtime to take home the crown.
