Russellville Mayor David Grissom announces run for third term

Mayor David R. Grissom said he’s seeking a third term in office because there are several ongoing projects he would like to see completed.
“There are many positive things taking place in and around Russellville,” Grissom said. “We continue to add new jobs, continue to improve our infrastructure, continue to improve our city services, and we continue to redevelop our downtown district.”

Carson, Ivy tour Clayton Homes as part of HUD initiative

Clayton Homes received high praise Thursday afternoon as Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey toured the plant as part of HUD’s “Driving Affordable Housing Across America” multi-city tour.
Carson is traveling the country as he talks to Americans about his plans for eliminating regulatory barriers in order to make owning a house more attainable for all Americans.

Council approves transition of Parks and Recreation Department operations to Russellville City Schools

Operation and management of the Russellville Parks and Recreation Department will now be handled by Russellville City Schools, after an agreement was approved at a joint meeting of the Russellville City Council and Russellville City Board of Education Monday evening.

City officials discuss safety improvements at 43/Gandy St. intersection

After a recent fatality near the intersection, the Russellville City Council voted to authorize Mayor David Grissom to move forward with officials from the Alabama Department of Transportation to make safety improvements at the Highway 43/Gandy Street intersection.

Russellville hosts bicentennial kickoff

Cold, damp weather didn’t keep people from celebrating the City of Russellville’s 200th birthday March 1 at Sloss Lake. A crowd gathered under the pavilion as Chris Ozbirn, Franklin County and Russellville City bicentennial coordinator, welcomed everyone and explained the purpose of the bicentennial celebration.

Russellville City Schools Career and Technical Education Department has recently formed a partnership with Toyota that will benefit Automotive Technology Program students. Toyota donated four brand new engines to the program for students to work and learn on.
