City of Russellville receives Main Street designation

Following a lengthy process, the City of Russellville received Main Street designation June 1, one of two communities, the other being Centreville, to receive the designation that day. In recent years, downtown Russellville has seen streetscape improvements, eight loft apartments and a five-room boutique hotel.

Grants will allow airport taxiways, taxilane to be upgraded

Russellville PD receives $24K grant for tasers

A nearly $24,000 federal grant has allowed Police Chief Chris Hargett to upgrade the department’s tasers.

The $23,959, is part of a $96,000 funding package designed to improve public safety in four northwest Alabama jurisdictions, according to a news release from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

Russellville awarded $350K grant to upgrade city sewer plant

A $350,000 grant will allow the Russellville Water and Sewer Board to make needed upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant and better serve its residential and commercial customers.

The grant money was provided by the Appalachian Regional Commission, according to an Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs news release.

Shoals law enforcement seeks federal funding for patrol vehicles

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville was a frequent visitor to the Russellville City Hall when he was running for office, and now the city is seeking his assistance with the purchase of new patrol cars for Police Department.

Mayor David Grissom said the city has submitted a request for $500,000 to purchase nine patrol cars through the senator’s Congressionally Directed Spending Requests, a process formerly known as congressional earmarks.

Congressional earmark could fund new Russellville library

A new library and multipurpose facility for the city has been included in U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt’s 2024 budget requests, Mayor David Grissom said.

Grissom issued a news release stating he received notice from the congressman’s office that the project is included along with several other projects that hope to be funded in fiscal year 2024.

Russellville City Council authorizes paving grant application

During its regular meeting Feb. 6, the Russellville City Council voted to request funding through the Rebuild Alabama Act to go toward repaving work on Clay Avenue.

“This would be a huge help to our city with the repaving of Clay Avenue,” explained Russellville Mayor David Grissom. “The street’s used a lot and goes over by the schools. It would be beneficial to the whole city.”

Cities, counties can use up to $10M in ARPA funds to replace lost revenue

Mayor David Grissom said he’s pleased with the most recent rule about how cities and counties can spend money they received through the American Rescue Plan Act.

The new rule states cities and counties can use up to $10 million in ARPA funds to replace “lost revenue” due to the coronavirus pandemic, without having to calculate those losses, as was required under previous rules.

Gifts to fund splash pad, new library for Russellville
