Russellville Mayor David Grissom got the chance to utter one of his favorite phrases Monday: “It’s a great day in the City of Russellville.”
In front of a standing-room only crowd at Russellville City Hall, the city, the county and the Franklin County Development Authority welcomed Farmers Home Furniture, which will be bringing a distribution center to Russellville Industrial Park, representing a promise of 80 new jobs and a $10 million investment.

In the News: Grissom announces re-election bid

David Grissom didn’t plan to announce his bid for re-election as mayor of Russellville until mid-May. But Ronnie McDowell had other ideas.
When McDowell invited Grissom on stage during McDowell’s April 16 concert at the Roxy Theater, it wasn’t to join him for a duet of Older Women Are Beautiful Lovers.
In front of a packed house of 600, the country legend asked Grissom if he was going to run for a second term as mayor.

In the News: Grissom seeking re-elect as Russellville mayor

David Grissom said he looks at being Russellville’s mayor as an honor, not just a job.
“To me, being able to serve the community you grew up in, your hometown, as mayor, it’s a privilege,” he said.
He said in 2012 as a city councilman, when he first thought about running for mayor, it was his goal, if elected, to make the city a better place to live and to work.

In the News: City of Russellville gets clean audit

At a short meeting April 4, the Russellville City Council heard the report on the city’s audit and approved a number of routine items.
The city received a clean audit that did not reveal any issues with the city’s financial health or activities.

In the News: Wake up for waffles

Construction is in progress at the Franklin Shopping Center on Highway 43 in Russellville. Right now the work site is little more than a hole in the ground, but within three months it will be the home of 24-hour syrupy, buttery waffles, along with other diner favorites.

“We’re really excited to have them here,” said Mayor David Grissom, who confirmed the Waffle House last week. He said the restaurant is set to open at the beginning of June.

In the News: City honors Norris on 100th birthday

Leila Norris now has something in common with Alabama governor Robert Bentley. And it has nothing to do with politics.
When Russellville mayor David Grissom presented Norris with a key to the city Monday morning, she became only the second person to receive the honor under Grissom’s tenure.
