The City Council approved applying for a grant to improve sidewalks in the downtown area during Monday’s council meeting.

The council authorized Mayor David Grissom to apply for the Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) grant.

Grissom said the project has an estimated cost of $519,981 and would continue the sidewalk improvements the city has done on the downtown.

The council also renewed the contracts of Bobby Brown as the Police Department’s chaplin and Donnie Aycock as a school resource officer.
