A $9K grant is going to mean some new equipment for the Russellville Police Department.
At the city’s most recent council meeting, council members approved the submission of the grant, which came through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. According to RPD Chief Chris Hargett, the ADECA grant will enable the replacement of some of the RPD’s Tasers.
“They will be replacing some of the Tasers we have now with the new model and technology,” explained Hargett.
The RPD will purchase the Taser X26P, which is endorsed as the company’s smallest and most compact model of its kind, having been recently redesigned.
Hargett said RPD officers benefit in many ways from the having Tasers at their disposal in certain situations.
“Tasers reduce officer injury and suspect injury. They keep officers from having to actually put hands on someone when they are not compliant or resisting arrest,” Hargett said.
