“Hear the beep where you sleep.”

That was the campaign slogan for Russellville Fire Department’s annual Fire Safety Poster Contest, open to all Russellville Elementary School students.

“It gets the kids who are older than the age we normally do the fire safety house with involved in and thinking about fire prevention and fire safety,” explained Fire Marshal Justin Green. “We don’t want them to forget about any of this stuff.”

Overall winner and first place in fifth grade was Kate Grissom, who won an iPad and a case. Overall second place, and first place in third grade, was Hunter Woodruff, who won an iPad mini and a case. Overall third place, and first place in fourth grade, was Danica Graham, who won a Walmart gift card.

Other winners by grade level were Kattie Gann, third grade, second place; Renea Berry, fourth grade, second place; Maggie Uptain, fourth grade, third place; Kaydence Watson, fifth grade, second place; and Ashlee Moon, fifth grade, third place.

The poster contest winners were recognized at Monday’s city council meeting with a certificate for their accomplishment and also a copy of the resolution recognizing Fire Safety Week. Grissom thanked the fire department for hard work in educating children on fire safety and prevention.

Firefighter Rhett Bradford said the poster contest encourages the children to think more about fire safety and prevention.

“It’s just a way for our us to keep our education program going,” Bradford said.

The fire department thanked the following sponsors for their participation: the electric, water and gas boards; Murray’s Tire and Alignment; G & G Steel Green’s Dependable Hardware; Lanny Norris, State Farm; Walmart; and American Health and Fitness.
